News: First review in + the tour continues
20.04.2022
We kicked off the UK Tour of If This Is Normal last week at The Wardrobe Theatre in Bristol and what a delightful experience it was. I couldn’t have asked for anywhere nicer to start off - their technical director Chris was an absolute star, patiently and enthusiastically programming the lights and making sure we had everything we needed. Also, the restaurant/bar attached to the theatre is great, with a cool collection of local beers - both alcoholic and lo/no alcohol options.
The theatre hosted friendly, supportive audiences both days and by the second performance the cast had really settled back into their roles and the space. I was particularly grateful to the teenager who confirmed that not only were the characters recognisably ‘modern teen’ to her, but that the situations and issues raised in the play were indeed prevalent at her own school. The play of course, should stand on its own as a piece of thought-provoking entertainment for audiences, but it does have another purpose in looking to improve conversations around sex and consent, so it’s great to hear we’re going in the first direction.
We received some wonderfully supportive tweets and messages post-show and I sold my very first published script! Our first review came out yesterday and it was a winner - four shiny stars from Kris Hallett for Life in Theatre. You can read it in its entirely HERE.
We had a small break over Easter but we’re back on the road tomorrow with the following dates yet to come:
Thursday 21st April - Arts at the Old Fire Station, Oxford
Saturday 23rd April - Yvonne Arnaud Theatre, Guildford
Tuesday 26th - 30th April - 53two, Manchester
Tuesday 3rd May - Liverpool’s Royal Court
You can buy a copy of the play directly from Chatback Theatre & Comedy at a reduced rate of £6 + postage or it’s also available from Methuen, Blackwells and Amazon.
